The fight against climate change : Loick Roche, Dean and Director of GEM, is chosen to participate in the 2021 business convention for climate change in France

Loïck Roche, Dean and Director of Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM), has been selected to participate in the 2021 business convention for climate change (CEC) in France, in the fight against climate change. He will be the only Business School representative joining leaders from other emblematic organizations such as ARaymond, Photowe, Petzl, and Keria. 

The business convention for climate change will be held from July 2021 to March 2022. The 150 chosen leaders will come together to build roadmaps to align their businesses with the climate change objectives shared with citizens in 2019. They will strive for at least 40% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the natural regeneration of biodiversity and the creation of a desirable future.

The Business Convention for Climate Change (CEC) in France: who are the 30 leaders that will go through to the second wave?

An association organizes the business convention for climate change in France, under the 1901 law, as a response from businesses to the citizen's convention for climate in France.

  • These leaders include women and men from all walks of life, running companies amounting to more than 30 000 employees and approximately 11 Billion Euros in turnover.
  • They will devote 12 days spread over a period of 8 months with 6 sessions of learning through doing in sharing their roadmaps and climate change objectives.
  • These roadmaps will serve two purposes. The first one is to propose ambitious and credible goals enabling the companies to act in favor of the regeneration of biodiversity and maintain a national carbon trajectory of at least - 40% by 2030. The second one is to create a platform of proposals for the political environment and for the 2022 presidential candidates.
  • The 30 leaders have signed a participation charter that testifies their commitment to the proactive approach of the CEC.

A milestone achieved with the participation of large organizations.

The first 30 companies selected in March 2021 represented a tremendous diversity in size, geographic location, and activity. This second wave has further increased the diversity with new sectors of activity coming in, such as, land use planning, real estate, construction; education, sport, energy production and consumption. This second wave also shows the trust that large organizations in France have in the CEC as a catalyst for change, with organizations such as, Bouyges, Renault Trucks, Babilou, and Fnac-Darty Group joining the convention.

Eric Duverger, founder of the CEC, explains this enthusiasm: "the need for change is everywhere and each participating organization will write its own story of transformation in the CEC. Among those that we welcome today are, a heavy good trucks manufacturer, a Business School, a professional rugby club, a seafood trading company… We can feel that the understanding of this urgency for climate change is highly apparent in these leaders and throughout the French economy. This second wave is fantastic in terms of diversity, whether sectorial or geographic, thanks to the participation of entrepreneurs from all corners of France. It also shows the trust that large organizations have in the CEC as a catalyst for change. Complementing the first wave constructively, we are delighted with the arrival of three new sectors in mass to the CEC: real estate and construction, education and sport, energy production and consumption. Together with the entire organization team, we would like to warmly thank these 30 new leaders who have decided to dedicate their time for their business, for the planet and for future generations.
