Michel Philippart is Participating Professor at Grenoble Graduate School of Business in the Management, Technologies and Strategy department. His main focuses are Purchasing Strategies, Purchasing Category Management, Collaborative Relations Development, Measurement of Supplier Management Performance, and Supplier Risk Management. He also teaches Operations with a strategic perspective in different Master programs.

Michel holds an engineering degree ULg (1983), an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Grraduate School of Management (1989), and a DBA from Paris Dauphine (2016). He has a dual experience in Consulting and Operations. Before his MBA he worked four years in jet engine refurbishing production support in the USA. In 1989, en discovered consulting with Booz in Chicago then in Paris. He joined Pepsico’s Frito-Lay in 1994 where he developed and implemented an international purchasing strategy with projects in Asia, Europe and Latin America, in packaging, seasoning, indirect spend, and tax optimization. In 2000 he returned to consulting with McKinsey as an Associate Principal in Switzerland. He became European Purchasing Director with Scotts then Head of Global Purchasing with GSK Biologicals, managing a spend of more than 1 billion €.

He co-authored two books on Strategic Supplier Management and Value Creation/ Collaborative Sourcing (Presses Universitaires de Louvain 2005) and Les Achats collaboratifs (De Boeck 2012). He has also written many articles in professionnal trade magazines and in academic journals. He is an occasional speaker at professional conferences and for corporations.

Michel works with GEM since 2008, and contributes to other programs in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Maghreb, Brazil, Canada and China. He has developed and led corporate training program for industries such as aerospace, defense, tire manufacturing, consumer products, mining, and fast moving consumer products. Thoes programs were delivered in Europe, en Africa, Asia and North America. Those training include hard and soft skills, technical, managerial and organizational with an integrated approach to Purchasing Leadership.
